On December 22, 2021 at 6:30PM PST, the Resource Management by Smartsheet Events and Notifications Service (ENS) had a faulty configuration setting applied which caused the service to not perform correctly. During the following one week period, webhook events for Resource Management were not delivered and any user changes made to notification preferences were not applied. On December 29, 2021, we were alerted to the issue and the underlying cause was identified at 1:06PM PST. The appropriate configuration changes were applied, and the webhook service began processing the queue of events which completed by 4:00PM PST on the same day. Although delayed, no webhook events were lost in this process.
We are taking steps to reduce the likelihood of such issues in the future and implementing methods to identify them much more quickly should they occur again. We continue to prioritize investments to scale our networking, compute, security, and other infrastructure, as well as our technical management processes that enable us to consistently deliver great experiences for our customers.
